Do you need to read my entire book before designing the cover?
Not necessarily, but I need a deep understanding of it. I just need a creative brief or a detailed synopsis. Reading the full manuscript can be time-consuming; instead, I focus on the “vibe,” key themes, pivotal symbols, and the target audience.
Can I provide my own images or sketches?
Absolutely, as a starting point. However, any images provided must be high-resolution (300 DPI) and you must own the legal rights to them. I’ll take your concepts and “professionalize” them to ensure they meet industry standards for composition and typography.
What is the difference between a 'front cover' and a 'full cover jacket'?
Front Cover: The digital file used for eBooks and marketing.
Full Wrap: Includes the front, the spine, and the back cover. This is required for physical print (paperback/hardback). For litho printing, we will need page number to determine spine size. For digital printing, I will create with a generic size- they can adjust their end.
I want a cover that looks totally unique. Can we avoid genre clichés?
We want to be unique, but we must stay recognizable. A thriller needs to look like a thriller so the right readers find it. If a horror novel looks like a cozy romance, readers will feel “catfished” and leave bad reviews. My job is to follow genre “signifiers” while giving them a fresh twist.
Who owns the final design?
Generally, once the final payment is made, the usage rights for the final flattened cover transfer to you. However, we retain the master files and the right to display the work in our portfolio.
How many revisions do I get?
You get 3 Revisions Total. Any additional revisions will come at a cost of R150 per revision.Â
What is a revision?
Lets say after the 2 designs, you realise you want the font changed to a cursive one instead of sans serif, that is a revision. Or you want to swap font and word placements between the two covers. This is necessary to ensure that clients do not hog the process with endless revision requests for days without payment.
How many designs do I get?
2 Design Options. We take your brief, and create two high quality book cover designs to choose from.
What If I want more design options?
This is possible. We charge R500 for more design options after the first two.
